A three-in-one law enforcement campaign against parking fee, fuel fee and ETC fee arrears Netting nearly NT$60 million in a single day. Following the previous law enforcement campaigns against people who still have unpaid parking fees, fuel fees and ETC fees, the AEA launched today (May 18th) a three-in-one action across the country against the afore-mentioned arrears, demonstrating the government’s “Never give up” spirit and determination to exercise public power. Through concerted efforts by AEA branches around the country, a total of NT$58,820,000 arrears have been paid. Items seized in the actions included 77 vehicles (4 tour buses and 2 trucks), 1 semi-trailer truck, 105 plots of land, computer monitors, televisions, refrigerators and heavy motorcycles. The results were fruitful. If people involved still fail to pay the arrears, the AEA branch will opt to auction off seized cars, real estate and movable properties. The priority targets of National 13 branches in this three-in-one campaign are persons or companies on the top 100 list for accumulated arrears in the three afore-mentioned categories and the top 50 list for accumulated arrears in each category. On the top 100 list, 66 are companies, with 46 of them running passenger and cargo transportation and car rental businesses. Their arrears are mainly unpaid fuel fees. A sedan rental company owed NT$1,940,000 in fuel tax, topping the list in terms of accumulated arrears. The Changhua branch of AEA notified the company that its bank deposits would be frozen and cars belonging to it be seized. The company owner didn’t realize the seriousness of the matter until that moment. Realizing that if the Changhua branch of AEA took the action, its reputation would be affected, the company soon paid the arrears. On the top 50 list for accumulated arrears in the category of parking fee, 46 are natural persons. In the category of fuel fee, 49 on the top 50 list for accumulated arrears are companies, while 29 on the top 50 list for accumulated areas in the category of ETC fee are companies. The AEA underscores that given a drastic increase in the number of the afore-mentioned three types of accumulated arrears in recent years, it has launched three campaigns to deal with them. However, there are still people willing to take a chance. That’s the reason for this three-in-one campaign, which is aimed at leading the general public to abide by law, realizing justice, exercising public power and enhancing enforcement performance. A kind reminder from the AEA: If any of you receive a notice from the AEA branches to pay arrears, please pay up immediately. Otherwise, the AEA branches will freeze your bank accounts, withhold your salaries, and seize and auction your properties. If needs be, forcible measures like restriction from leaving the country, arrest with a warrant and taking into custody will be enforced. The aim is to ensure that arrears will be paid and that the country’s claims as a creditor will be fulfilled.
